SUMMARY:VitiGEOSS presented during a webinar of the Netherlands Water Partnership
DESCRIPTION:The VitiGEOSS project has been represented in a session held within the webinar series “Sustainable adaptation to drought in the Aconcagua Valley” organised by the Netherlands Water Partnership and celebrated last June 16th. \nThe webinar series is focused on exploring the European demand for sustainable products and to exchange knowledge and expertise on water management for agriculture\, as well as sustainable practices and innovation technologies to cope with drought and increase best practices for agricultural producers. \nErnesto Bastidas\, project partner from eLEAF\, participated in the session “Innovative Technologies for Irrigation and Soil Management” and took this opportunity to present VitiGEOSS as a key project promoting a more sustainable agriculture in wine sector by developing an innovative vineyard tool based on the integration of Earth Observation Services and in-field sensors. Ernesto gave a general overview about the project\, explaining its main objectives\, methodology and the expected outputs. \nDownload here the presentation  \nThe presentation also included a brief introduction on how eLEAF can help companies\, institutions and other innovative projects to work in the sustainability sector\, agricultural production and promote sustainable agriculture practices. \neLEAF is a Dutch high-tech company that provides satellite-based applications and data to optimize agricultural production\, water resources management and agricultural index insurance. eLEAF is the developer and owner of a set of algorithms that transform meteorological and remote sensing-based data into quantitative crop\, water and climate parameters per pixel.

SUMMARY:Eurecat disseminates VitiGEOSS project during a session on Artificial Intelligence applied to the Agri-food Industry
DESCRIPTION:The VitiGEOSS project has been presented during the session “Artificial Intelligence in the Agri-food Industry”\, organised by Digital Cluster and Eurecat on Tuesday 1st of June. \nThe session focused on discussing and analysing the degree of implementation of Artificial Intelligence techniques in the agri-food sector and what are the main challenges and expectations in a short-medium term. \nJosep Pijuan\, researcher at  Eurecat’s Applied Artificial Intelligence Unit \, participated in the session and presented VitiGEOSS as a key European project in the agriculture sector\, developing an innovative vineyard tool based on the integration of Earth Observation Services and in-field sensors. Moreover\, Josep Pijuan explained Eurecat’s main technical mission within VitiGEOOS\, focused on data acquisition from in-field sensors combined with satellite data and weather\, phenology and crop status forecasting models for an improved disease management on vineyards and  the optimisation of resources for a sustainable agriculture. \nDownload the presentation  \nDuring the session\, Pijuan also presented GRAPE\, Agrobofood and IoECrops\, as other key agri-food and Artificial Intelligence European projects participated by Eurecat. \nThe Digital Cluster is an association bringing together different start-ups\, SMEs and large companies and other entities with the objective to boost the competitiveness of the Catalan ICT sector.

SUMMARY:VitiGEOSS partners present at a workshop on “European platforms & co-design best practices”
DESCRIPTION:The VitiGEOSS project has participated in the workshop “European Platforms & Co-design best practices” organised by the European Research Executive Agency and celebrated in an online format on April 16th. \nThe workshop\, aimed at sharing different project’s experiences related to the application of co-design approaches for the development of European platforms\, included an introduction of the main EuroGEO highlights and the announcement of the next EuroGEO 2021 workshop\, as well as a presentation of the findings and co-design best practices of e-shape project\, which supports the coordinated explotaition of Earth Observation data and services across Europe. \nProject partners from Eurecat \, BSC\, and eLEAF participated at the discussion table organised within the workshop and presented VitiGEOSS as a key research and innovation project in the agri-food sector\, developing an innovative vineyard management tool based on Earth Observation services and in-field sensors. \nThe discussion also counted with the participation of representatives from FIRE\, shaping the research and innovation strategy for Earth Obsevation in Europe through open dialogue with industry experts from focus sectors\, SAFERS\, aiming at creating an emergency management system for wildfires\, Envision\, aiming at delivering a toolbox of services for continuous and systematic monitoring of sustainable agricultural practice\, Nextland\, developing next generation land management services for agriculture and forestry and SusTunTech\, mixting Coperincus data\, machine learning\, AI\, etc. to improve energy saving for the tuna industry. \nAll projects presented\, funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme\, shared their experience with the implementation of co-design approaches and the exploitation  of the existing European platforms\, to build on each other’s results. \nAs a continuation of this first collaboration activity\, VITIGEOSS was invited to participate in the next EO-based solutions projects\, within the 2021 edition of the EuroGEO workshop which will \, be oganised by the European Commission and the French Ministry of Higher Education\, Research and Innovation on September 2021.

SUMMARY:VitiGEOSS project presented at the European Food Forum 2020
DESCRIPTION:VitiGEOSS project has been presented during the event “EU research and innovation for the agrifood sector beyond 2020” held within the European Food Forum (EFF)\, celebrated online on December 9th. \nFerran Roure\, researcher from the Robotics and Automation Unit of Eurecat\, has presented VitiGEOSS during the session “Innovation in practice along the food supply chain”\, as a key European project in agrifood sector\, developing an innovative vineyard management solution based on Earth Obseervation services and in-field sensors. \nDuring the session\, Roure also presented IoECrops and Agrobofood\, as two key agrifood research and innovation European projects participated by Eurecat. \nThe event\, which counted with the presence of three MEPs\, aimed at understanding the available toolbox under different agrifood EU programmes and showed some good examples of on-farm innovation to underline and discuss about the importance of cooperation between all the agrifood stakeholders. \nThe European Food Forum (EFF) aims to promote open dialogue on sustainable food systems amonb policymakers\, food supply chain agents\, civil society entities\, research and academia institutions and other public organisations.

SUMMARY:Eurecat brings VitiGEOSS at the “Fira de Novembre” online event
DESCRIPTION:The VitiGEOSS project has been presented during the “Fira de Novembre de Vilanova i la Geltrú” online event which took place from 6th – 15th of November. \nVitiGEOSS’s coordinator Eurecat presented the project as one of the key research and innovation projects in agri-food sector of the Technology Centre\, developing an innovative vineyard management tool based on Earth Observation services and in-field sensors. On the other hand\, Eurecat also presented the projects Grape\, IoE Crops and Interacciona\, promoting different innovative initiatives and solutions to facilitate the digitisation of the agricultural and livestock sectors. \nSee the presentation here \nThe Fira de Novembre online event has reunited more than 200 expositors from different economic and industry sectors and has carried out a total of 130 online activities\, including project’s presentations\, webinars\, and training and consulting sessions\, among others. \n

SUMMARY:VitiGEOSS takes part in the e-shape project general assembly
DESCRIPTION:VitiGEOSS project coordinator María Navarro from Eurecat Technology Center has presented the project at the e-shape project General Assembly celebrated in an online format between 19th – 21st October. \nDuring the meeting\, Mrs. Navarro gave a general overview about VitiGEOSS\, explaining the main project’s objectives and the three different pilots\, as well as the solution that will be developed and its expected results. The presentation also has shown the sustainable agriculture context and the importance of the use of satellite data on agriculture sector. \nDownload the presentation  \ne-shape European project coordinates multiple actors and activities with the objective to foster the economic sustainability of Earth Observation Services and to bring Copernicus and the Group of Earth Observations (GEO) closer together for the benefit of users such as decision-makers\, citizens\, the industry and the researchers. \n
