The VitiGEOSS project organised the workshop “Earth Observation data for sustainable practices in viticulture” celebrated on the 2nd of October 2023 as part of the EuroGEO Workshop taking place in Bolzano, Italy. This session is the second participatory workshop organised by VitiGEOSS, and aimed to share the lessons learned and research conducted in the project with the Earth observations (EO) community.
The workshop was focused on discussing the importance of remote sensing and EO data for the wine sector, disseminating the potential of EO data and applications for more sustainable viticulture practices, and raising awareness about the importance of developing EO-based solutions for better agricultural management.
In addition, the workshop, which had the participation of approximately 20 people physically and 20 more connecting online, included different presentations from project partners with the objective to showcase the research, results and developments achieved as part of the VitiGEOSS project.
Federico Oldani, Data Science Research and Software Engineer and Tommaso Monopoli, AI Applied Researcher, from LINKS Foundation moderated the session in Bolzano, while Ernesto Bastidas, Project and Business Manager from eLEAF, Rosa Araujo, project’s coordinator from Eurecat and Andria Nicodemou, Science Communicator at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), participated online.
This annual edition of the EuroGEO workshop provided the opportunity to position European activities in the light of the new Group on Earth Observations (GEO) strategy and supported the coordination and interlinking of actions at national and European level and across sectors to create relevant and important contributions to GEO.
