The VitiGEOSS project has been presented during the session “Artificial Intelligence in the Agri-food Industry”, organised by Digital Cluster and Eurecat on Tuesday 1st of June.

The session focused on discussing and analysing the degree of implementation of Artificial Intelligence techniques in the agri-food sector and what are the main challenges and expectations in a short-medium term.

Josep Pijuan, researcher at  Eurecat’s Applied Artificial Intelligence Unit , participated in the session and presented VitiGEOSS as a key European project in the agriculture sector, developing an innovative vineyard tool based on the integration of Earth Observation Services and in-field sensors. Moreover, Josep Pijuan explained Eurecat’s main technical mission within VitiGEOOS, focused on data acquisition from in-field sensors combined with satellite data and weather, phenology and crop status forecasting models for an improved disease management on vineyards and  the optimisation of resources for a sustainable agriculture.

During the session, Pijuan also presented GRAPE, Agrobofood and IoECrops, as other key agri-food and Artificial Intelligence European projects participated by Eurecat.

The Digital Cluster is an association bringing together different start-ups, SMEs and large companies and other entities with the objective to boost the competitiveness of the Catalan ICT sector.
